Dark Ruler - Chapter168

Darkness surged.

The Xenomorphs swarmed forward, pouncing on their prey.

They crawled swiftly on the walls, moving silently like ghosts. Lifting their heads, one could only see a series of dark afterimages.

Witnessing the Xenomorphs pouncing on them from all directions, a series of screams erupted from the crowd. Many refugees turned around and fled in panic.

The holy knights raised their weapons and braced themselves for the Xenomorphs.

Even though they had thoughts of escaping, there was only one thing they could do in this situation: delay the Xenomorphs as much as possible to buy time for the refugees.

No matter what, they carried God's grace and fought for justice!

However, Jenn didn't care about the burning flames and rage in the holy knights' eyes or their firm determination.

This was meaningless to him. This wasn't the first time he saw humans reveal such expressions. If it were in the past, perhaps Jenn would be touched.

But now, he only squinted his eyes and calmly enjoyed the farce before him.

After all, he wasn't a human anymore.

Those who weren't of my race had different intentions.

This was the unshakable truth for thousands of years.

The holy knights weren't able to stop the Xenomorphs' attacks. Their blades might be sharp and their battle intent was burning like flames.

But they were only humans, after all. Humans who walked on two legs without wings and naturally couldn't learn how to fly.

However, the Xenomorphs were able to pass through the smooth walls and tall domed roofs like vines.

The city walls formed by the holy knights couldn't even obstruct the pitch-black Xenomorphs in the slightest. At the next moment, along with heart-wrenching screams, the massacre officially began.

The Xenomorphs leaped down from the ceiling and pinned down an unlucky refugee on the ground with its sharp claws. Before the refugee could even yell out a few lines, his heart was pierced by the sharp claws. Then, the Xenomorphs retracted its claws and the refugee's corpse spun in midair like a ragged piece of cloth before crashing to the ground.

Organs and blood splashed out from the torn wound on the refugee's abdomen and scattered among the crowd.

This triggered a series of screams of horror. But at the next moment, the Xenomorphs swung its long tail, bringing about a rain of blood and ending several innocent lives.

Innocent lives.

Jenn reached out and touched the mask. The people here were indeed innocent, but what did it have to do with him?

In fact, wealth and resources were secondary to his attack on Orante City. The most important thing was that Jenn wanted to make use of this city to build a stage for his Dungeon. Blood and death were the backdrop for the stage. It was that simple.

In this world, nothing was more important than life, and nothing was more insignificant than life.

To their families, the corpses lying at their feet were equivalent to the destruction of the entire world.

But to the Multiverse, a grain of sand, a speck of dust, a worm, a beast, a nation, or even a god, destruction and death had nothing to do with it. The blood and sacrifice of thousands would not change anything either.

For example, if Earth was destroyed by a meteorite, it would only be a big deal for the lives on Earth.

But to the entire Universe, such planetary collisions weren't worth mentioning at all — it could even be said to be a common occurrence.

Hundreds of thousands of years ago, it was these human ancestors who sang battle songs and launched an unwavering assault against tens of thousands of demons. Numerous heroes and fighters had sacrificed their lives for a brilliant future.

However, hundreds of years later, darkness descended once again. Evil and darkness mercilessly returned to this land and began to ruthlessly destroy everything once again.

The cycle repeated. Even if the Demons' invasion was defeated again, they would return again. Perhaps it would be decades or centuries. But no matter what, there was only one thing that was certain.

All of this would never end.

At this thought, Jenn clenched the cane in his hand and the corners of his lips curled up into a smile.

Now, it was time for him to join this never-ending war.

Raise the torch, light the beacon, and announce to the world that darkness had descended once again!

Zayen raised the cane in his hand high up and hit the ground hard.

"— — — — —!"

The ground trembled and shattered. A huge crack spread rapidly and flames burst into the sky, transforming into a huge three-headed fire serpent. It widened its mouth and launched an attack on the holy knights.

"Be careful. Dodge it!"

Bishop Ryan had been observing the Necromancer's every move. The instant the Necromancer attacked, Ryan's instincts told him that something was wrong.

He yelled for the holy knights to dodge while raising the holy emblem in his hand.

"God, grant me the Guardian Shield!"

The golden lines of the rule extended from the emblem and transformed into a complicated, gorgeous shield that spun in front of the holy knights.

The fiery serpent opened its mouth wide and slammed into the Holy Barrier.

Even though it wasn't able to shatter the shield entirely, everyone witnessed a few broken patterns on the surface of the shield.

"Ssss — — — —!"

Everyone sucked in a deep breath of cold air.

The holy shield was a product of the rule, which meant that it wasn't a physical entity. Instead, it was just a form of energy.

Logically speaking, it wasn't likely to be defeated.

But now, the fire serpent actually cracked it. This proved that not only was the Necromancer's attack comparable to the holy shield in terms of energy, but it also extended to the depth of the rule.

How is this possible?

How can the Necromancer have such a powerful elemental attack?

Even though Bishop Ryan wasn't in the Legendary Stage, he was considered a Master Stage spell caster.

Moreover, the holy shield was one of the highest level of protection spells in the temple and yet it was cracked so easily. Could it be that the Necromancer was a Fire Elemental Lord?

Come to think of it, he's clearly a Necromancer, so why is he so good at using elemental spells?

Don't you think it's weird?

However, Jenn wouldn't answer their questions because it wasn't the time to waste time here.

He raised his right hand again and this time, a bolt of lightning struck across the sky and landed on Jenn's palm, transforming into a dazzling spear.

Then, Zayen grabbed the spear condensed from thunder and lightning and threw it forward.

At the next moment, the whistling lightning spear penetrated the holy shield entirely. The scattered lightning bolts were like long whips that slashed through the air mercilessly, striking the holy knights.

At this moment, the holy emblem in Bishop Ryan's hand finally couldn't withstand such a powerful attack and shattered in a loud crack.

He raised his head in despair. What he saw was the Elemental Fire Serpent that was burning with flames all over its body and had its bloody mouth wide open.

Then, his body was devoured entirely and vanished in the flames.

The dark night continued and the storm didn't seem to be stopping.

"Is there still no news from the outside?"

General Cowos knitted his brows and gazed at the city below from the balcony.

Under the heavy downpour, the flames from before had vanished entirely.

As far as the eye could see, only pitch-black darkness could be seen.

Be it the commercial district or civilian district, everything was shrouded in darkness.

He had sent out 10 scouts, but there wasn't any response at all.

There wasn't even an emergency signal sent out. What exactly happened down there?

General Cowos could imagine that they must have been attacked. But who exactly was it?

How did they enter Orante City?

Could it be that they had an insider?

But it shouldn't be to the extent where the defense army didn't respond at all, right?

Even if the Stone Army was a bunch of trash, the Iron Army and Silver Army should have sent someone to contact them, right?

What exactly is going on now?

Could it be that the monsters in the mine had rushed out?

At this thought, General Cowos knitted his brows. Judging from the timing, it wasn't impossible. Not long ago, Bart, the leader of the third squad of the Iron Army, rushed over to report that the miners had dug through the underground ruins and angered some terrifying and powerful monsters. Soon after that, Orante City was attacked. But the problem was, could a group of monsters defeat the troops in the civilian and commercial districts without alarming anyone?

Perhaps even a well-trained army couldn't achieve this, let alone those brainless beasts.

Even a dragon couldn't launch a silent attack on Orante City. No matter what kind of magical beast it was, it was absolutely impossible to do this.

General Cowos's fingers trembled slightly.

He felt that something wasn't quite right, but for a moment, he couldn't determine what exactly he had grasped in the depths of his heart.

Although according to the mayor's opinion, they should defend the noble district to prevent those rascals from creating a diversion, he felt that the other party seemed to have another purpose.

Although he couldn't rule out the possibility that they were setting up a trap and waiting for him to come, the old general had no better way now.

And almost at this moment, a bolt of lightning struck down in front of him. The eruption of pale light illuminated the old general's tall and straight figure, and he didn't waver in the slightest.

"Pass down the order. Gather the first guards of the Gold Army."

The old man said in a deep voice. He stretched out his hand and couldn't help but touch the hilt of the sword at his waist.

"We have to prepare for action."
