The mountains surrounding Shangjing were called Juyuan Mountains, which meant to gather the Qi of Heaven and Earth. A wise man discovered after investigation that this was the place where the Yin Qi of the earth was released. After the fusion of the Yang Qi on the ground, it formed a kind of Qi of origin. The people living here were healthier and evolved faster, so a large population gathered here.
With the unification of Higashimogami Province, it became the largest city of the human race. Because of the natural defense line of the surrounding mountains, it remained standing after several sieges of large-scale Direbeasts. In recent years, a large number of Direbeasts had infiltrated the hinterland of the human race, and Shangjing was the main target of the Direbeasts. The military had no choice but to send the most elite troops to patrol Juyuan Mountains.
A patrol team of more than 20 people was walking on a mountain path. In addition to a silver-white mech in the team, there was also a small silver aircraft that was as small as a shuttle hovering in the sky. These products were the latest crystallization of the University of Beijing's technology, and they used liquid hydrogen engines.
Compared to petroleum, liquid hydrogen burned more efficiently and converted more energy, enough to support the miniaturization of some power equipment. After the appearance of liquid hydrogen, the most important energy source for industry finally had a stable supply channel, and would not stagnate due to a shortage of petroleum.
The only drawback was that hydrogen was extremely difficult to extract. Only the Sea Clan and the Three-Eyed Clan, who were born with a light affinity, could use light energy to extract hydrogen from seawater.
The team was led by a young physical trainer. Following behind him was a ferocious and plump black military dog. Unlike the valiant military dogs, this one walked slowly like a lazy noblewoman. From time to time, it would roll its eyes at the people beside it, as if it was in a bad mood.
"Daqing, hurry up." The young physical trainer looked back at the military dog and urged.
The only response he got was an impatient growl, and the military dog followed him unhurriedly.
The young physical trainer was called Gan Zhi. Just now, a small earthquake occurred in the mountains. He led the patrol team to check it out, but found that no matter how they walked, they could not enter the source of the earthquake. Even the aircraft could not fly over. The place was shrouded by an inexplicable force field, as if the space was distorted. This situation was usually caused by powerful Direbeasts, so they had to report it to their superiors as soon as possible.
About half an hour later, the patrol team walked into a spacious military base. The base was surrounded by a boundless sea of trees. In recent years, the growth of plants had been extremely fast, and their vitality was extremely tenacious. Even if only the roots were left, they would grow new shoots the next day.
The military had deployed four military bases in the four corners of Shangjing. They were named after the four ancient mythological beasts, the Azure Dragon, the White Tiger, the Vermillion Bird, and the Black Tortoise. This military base was the White Tiger Base. The base was surrounded by huge concrete walls that were more than ten meters high. There were rows of anti-aircraft cannons on the walls, and there were large patches of dark red blood stains on the walls. It was obvious that it had been attacked by a herd of beasts.
As soon as the patrol team returned to the base, they received an emergency assembly order. All the high-ranking officers gathered in a hall in the base. In recent years, there had been a large increase in the number of new physical trainers. The White Tiger Base also had four physical trainers. Other than Gan Zhi, there were three middle-aged physical trainers. The four of them took turns to patrol the area they were in charge of.
We are currently recruiting members for a secret mission. All physical trainers can sign up. In addition, we are also recruiting some mecha operators and flight technicians. The specific mission is to go to the Northern Ice Plains. The Northern Ice Plains are uninhabited. The mission requires elite scouts to explore the environment and draw a map. This mission requires us to go deep into the heart of the Direbeasts, and it is very dangerous. All members will be awarded a rank one military merit and a bottle of mid-level genetic medicine after the mission. "
"Mr. Zhang, is this mission just to explore and draw a map?" a tall officer asked.
The man nodded and said, "Yes, we need the general terrain of the Northern Ice Plains. You all need to pay attention to a deep pit. Once you find it, you can return immediately."
As soon as he finished speaking, the crowd below became noisy. The rewards were too generous. The genetic medicine was secondary. Those who obtained a rank one military merit would be directly conferred a noble title, which would be hereditary. Moreover, the mission was not difficult. Although the Northern Ice Plains was the heart of the Direbeasts, it was not as densely populated as the inland areas. Most of the areas were desolate ice plains, and the chances of encountering ice beasts were very small.
After waiting for the hall to quiet down, the man said in a deep voice, "This time, we are recruiting a total of twenty people. We will only recruit from the four bases guarding Shang Jing. Five people will be in a group, and each group will be led by a physical trainer. You will explore the depths of the ice plains in a fan shape. Try not to alarm the Direbeasts along the way. Your main goal is to explore the terrain and escape immediately if you encounter any danger. I know that although some of you are not physical trainers, you are still elites who have been on the battlefield for a long time. I hope that you all can get familiar with your teammates as soon as possible.
The White Tiger Base only had one small team, which meant that there were only five spots. The competition was very fierce, but the physical trainers were quickly selected. Gan Zhi came from Guang Yang County in the north, which was very close to the Northern Ice Plains. He was familiar with the climate of the Extreme North, and his strength was outstanding. He was one of the students who had successfully become a physical trainer and graduated from Shang Jing University in recent years.
Although the physical trainers who graduated from Shang Jing University did not have as much combat experience as the physical trainers in the military, their growth rate was much higher than the physical trainers in the military. Most of them could reach the intermediate level or even the advanced level.
The remaining four people were more difficult. It was not until the next day that the five spots were finally decided. The vice-captain was a tall man called Zhang Kui. The two captains were both physical trainers. They were strong and experienced.
The reason why the two physical trainers were chosen was because the vice-captain, Zhang Kui, had just completed the energy infusion a few days ago. He had not yet been evaluated by the Body Arts Headquarters, so he was still an advanced physical warrior in the files. Although he had become a physical trainer, he did not have a deep understanding of the combat techniques of physical trainers.
Among the other three people, there was a skinny young man called Qin Yang. He always held a long sniper rifle in his hands. The only female was called Ma Xiaojia. She was very beautiful, but she always had a cold face. The last person was a middle-aged man with a stubble and a somewhat decadent beard. His name was Zhou Zheng.
Other than the two captains, although the other three were not physical trainers, they were already advanced physical warriors. They had a lot of combat experience in the military.
The officers of the White Tiger Base came from all kinds of military branches. There were more than ten thousand people and countless soldiers. Although the team members were in the same camp, they were not familiar with each other. Gan Zhi looked at the four of them and said loudly, "Alright, everyone is now teammates. Introduce your specialties so that I can assign tasks. I train in fire-type physical skills, so I have a strong resistance to temperature. I also have a matured dog-type beast."
The black-backed military dog beside him growled softly, as if it was saying, "Don't ignore my existence."
Zhang Kui took out a large machete from his back and licked his lips. He continued, "I only have a lot of strength. I don't have any other specialties."
The skinny Qin Yang stroked the long spear in his hand and said coldly, "Spear Arts."
Zhou Zheng said indifferently, "I know a little bit of both."
Seeing that Ma Xiaojia still had a cold face and had no intention to speak, Gan Zhi could only ask, "Ma Xiaojia, what about you?"
Ma Xiaojia bit her thin lips lightly and finally opened her mouth, "I don't have any specialties in combat. I'm just more sensitive to incoming danger."
Gan Zhi's eyes lit up. He nodded and said, "Very good. When the time comes, we will focus on protecting you."
Zhang Kui glanced at his teammates one by one and laughed loudly, "Very good. Our team is full of talents. Completing the mission shouldn't be a problem."
