Star Odyssey - Chapter34

"I'm going to catch a zombie and experiment on it," Zhang Dingtian said before leaving.

Not long after, Zhang Dingtian threw a zombie to the ground and threw an energy crystal into its mouth.

The group stared at the zombie for a moment.

Even after a while, there was no reaction.

Zhang Dingtian and Bai Xue heaved a sigh of relief.

"One isn't enough, let's catch a few more," Lu Yin said.

Zhang Dingtian nodded and ordered his men to capture more zombies.

Half an hour later, more than fifty were tied up and brought over. Zhang Dingtian tossed more than fifty energy crystals into their mouths one by one.

Roar!

Suddenly, one of the zombies growled, its face contorted in pain as it glared at Zhang Dingtian with its scarlet eyes. Energy tore through its skin, causing it to explode with a bang.

Aside from this one, the rest of the zombies remained the same.

President Lian looked on in shock, "The energy crystals have a reaction to individual zombies, which proves that this path of evolution is feasible."

Lu Yin looked at the mangled flesh on the ground and suddenly thought of Silver and that scarlet eye. Just thinking about it made his scalp go numb, and he didn't dare take it out.

"This has to be kept a secret," Bai Xue said coldly, looking at Lu Yin.

"It looks like the planet's evolution isn't as simple as we thought. Zombies are also a part of the evolution process. Are they qualified to participate in the trial?"

"Zombies don't have intelligence," Bai Xue said.

Lu Yin laughed, "Don't have intelligence?

Not necessarily. "

Zhang Dingtian immediately ordered everyone outside the city to return, using whatever firearms they had left to bombard the zombies. Zombies couldn't be turned back into humans, and now that they knew they could evolve, they couldn't be allowed to live. The fact that they could consume energy crystals to gain strength was intolerable.

President Lian agreed. There were too many zombies, and even if one successfully evolved out of tens of thousands of them, it would still be terrifying. That kind of supernatural power wasn't something a normal person could deal with. Bai Xue was proof of that; if not for her innate gift of ice, she might not have been Paris's match. It was precisely because of her innate gift of ice that she had been able to easily kill Paris and control Jeraldine.

That night, an earth-shattering explosion rang out outside the capital.

Lu Yin looked up and saw missiles raining down outside the city, sweeping across the land.

Zombies were not scary. What was scary was their numbers. This was the consensus of everyone. Firearms were the best way to deal with numbers.

The bombardment lasted less than two minutes before it ended. Lu Yin was puzzled; there shouldn't be so few firearms left in the capital.

Just as he was about to continue gazing at the stars, a figure flew towards his residence. He looked over and was surprised to find that it was Bai Xue.

This outrageously beautiful woman had always found him an eyesore. Why was she looking for him in the middle of the night?

Lu Yin watched the alluring figure approach under the moonlight. He didn't mind cuckolding Liu Shaoge.

Bai Xue landed at Lu Yin's residence, and she heaved a sigh of relief when she saw him.

"What's the matter?"

Jeraldine walked out of the room and looked at Bai Xue strangely.

Bai Xue calmly replied, "Nothing, I was just passing by."

Lu Yin was speechless. "Are you sure?"

Bai Xue muttered to herself for a moment before replying, "The people who fired the weapons are all dead. All the weapons have been destroyed and can't be used."

Lu Yin was shocked. "Who did this?"

Bai Xue stared at him in silence.

Lu Yin laughed, "So you came here to prove that I wasn't at the scene."

"I hope you didn't do it, or we won't let you go," Bai Xue said coldly.

Lu Yin was puzzled, "You seem to be on guard against me, why?"

Bai Xue didn't answer and turned to leave.

"Wait, don't think you can leave so easily," Lu Yin appeared beside Bai Xue and reached out to grab her hair. Bai Xue's eyes were cold, and her body emitted an extremely cold aura that swept towards Lu Yin. Lu Yin shook his right hand to disperse the aura and continued to grab her.

A layer of ice suddenly appeared in front of Bai Xue, reflecting the moonlight.

Lu Yin slapped the ice and shattered it, but Bai Xue retreated a few meters away and stared at him warily.

Lu Yin shrugged, "I was just joking."

"It's not funny," Bai Xue said coldly.

"You barged into my house and threatened me, that's not funny either," Lu Yin said coldly.

Bai Xue's eyes flickered, "I'm sorry," and flew away, leaving behind a delicate fragrance.

Lu Yin looked up at the sky, wondering who had destroyed the weapons.

Did they not want the corpse tide to be bombed?

Jeraldine sighed as she watched Bai Xue's departing figure, "I'm stunned every time I see her. No wonder Zhou Shan called her the Goddess of Luo River. In terms of looks alone, she's comparable to Starsibyl."

"Starsibyl?" Lu Yin was puzzled.

Jeraldine looked up at the sky, "Starsibyl is one of the most beautiful women in the universe. Rumor has it that she can wander the stars and often appears in the trial grounds to find fated people. There are also legends that she can predict the future and look into the past. She's the dream of countless people in the universe."

Lu Yin was speechless, "You're a girl, but she's also your dream?"

Jeraldine rolled her eyes at Lu Yin. "She's my idol, and I've heard that she comes from one of the most powerful and mysterious sects in the Innerverse. Any random disciple from that sect can sweep through the entire younger generation of the Great Yu Empire, and Starsibyl is even on the Astral Combat Rankings. She …" Jeraldine paused and pursed her lips. "You wouldn't understand even if I told you.

Forget it. "Lu Yin didn't pay attention to her words. The universe was boundless, and even the smallest of things could be exaggerated to the extreme. There was no such person in the universe who could predict the future and look into the past. He looked up at the night sky and two stars appeared on his right palm. A third star was faintly visible.

The bombardment of the corpse tide was temporarily halted. Lu Yin didn't know how Zhang Dingtian and the rest had dealt with it, but he didn't care. He glanced at his gadget and saw that there were about forty days left until the second batch of trialtakers arrived.

The 100,000 cultivators from the Chinese camp left the city in batches. Under Zhang Dingtian's orders, they didn't need to face the mutant beasts and only needed to kill the zombies.

This mission wasn't difficult, as zombies were much easier to kill than mutant beasts.

Zhang Dingtian and Bai Xue stood atop the city walls.

"Even if we clear out all the zombies around the capital, it's just a drop in the ocean," Bai Xue said helplessly as she watched the soldiers walk out.

Zhang Dingtian replied, "It's better than doing nothing. I've already sent people to Nanjing, Hubei, and other places to inform them of the situation. They'll do their best to eliminate the zombies and prevent any uncontrollable factors."

Bai Xue's eyes flashed at the mention of Hubei, "Is he alright?"

Zhang Dingtian looked at her and replied, "I don't know."

Bai Xue fell silent.

The cleanup of the zombies was going smoothly. The 100,000 cultivators from the Chinese camp were able to kill nearly two million zombies a day, and in just a few days, the area outside the capital had become much emptier. Countless zombies had been slaughtered and burned, and thick smoke billowed around the capital.

Zhang Dingtian returned to the west side of the capital, where the weapons were fired. He had been investigating the culprit for the past few days, but he hadn't been able to find him. The killer's methods were clean and efficient, and he'd killed more than five hundred people in less than a minute.

"Do you think it's Lu Yin?" Bai Xue asked from a distance.

"Didn't you see it with your own eyes?" Zhang Dingtian asked in a low voice, his gaze sweeping the ground.

Bai Xue pursed her lips, "It's best to contact Nanjing as soon as possible. His identity is mysterious, and I have a feeling he's an alien student."

Zhang Dingtian looked at her, "So what if he is?

This world can differentiate between friend and foe, and there's no need to differentiate between races. Earth doesn't have the right to differentiate between races. "

Bai Xue's gaze dimmed, but she didn't say anything.

Zhang Dingtian turned around and walked inside, but as soon as he opened the door, a flash of white light streaked towards his neck. His eyes narrowed, and he dodged in the nick of time. Even so, a gash still appeared on his neck.

Under the white light, the silver-haired man's lips curled into a sinister smile.

The butterfly knife stabbed towards Zhang Dingtian once more, but he pulled out his sword and blocked it.

The butterfly knife avoided the long saber in a strange arc and approached Zhang Dingtian's eyes. This knife was meant to cripple Zhang Dingtian's eyes.

Just as Butterfly was about to open his eyes.

As the knife approached, Zhang Dingtian didn't close his eyes. Instead, he faced it head-on, his energy erupting from his body.

The butterfly knife was delayed for a moment, but Zhang Dingtian's sword slashed horizontally, a huge sword qi visible to the naked eye that split the camp in half and even split the ground.
