The young king said angrily, "Each of the Nine Sovereigns of Hell possesses the power of a god. Their power of destruction is something we cannot fathom. Coldblade will definitely descend upon us, and since that is the case, we cannot resist. We can only accept it. That is why I have chosen to form an alliance with Coldblade to protect the survival and dignity of Sky City.
I couldn't help but sneer, "So you want Coldblade to use Sky City as a stepping stone to sweep through the rest of the human empires on the continent?
Do you really think that the Night Creatures will leave Sky City alone after they destroy the continent? "
Mylin also echoed, "That's right, Your Majesty. The human alliance will be interdependent if the lips are gone. We cannot betray the alliance, or we will be despised and spurned by our descendants!"
"There's no need to say anything more!"
The young king's lips curled into a sinister smile. "The Violet Empire is overbearing, Vanished God City is watching from the sidelines, and Floating Ice City's Karinshan is constantly expanding her influence. You can't even see how much I've done for Sky City. Hahaha, just you wait. The day Lord Coldblade arrives with his hell army will be the day Sky City rules over the world!"
As he spoke, the king suddenly pointed his sword at us and laughed sinisterly, "And all of you will be the first sacrifices, hahaha!"
… …
It was obvious that this bastard king had no intention of letting us leave this place alive.
Thud!
I grabbed Mylin and whispered, "Hurry up and escape with me. We can't stay here any longer!"
Mylin was a mage. Even though she was a high-level NPC, she was no match for those royal swordsmen with high attack power in this chaotic battlefield. She was the key to this quest, and I couldn't let anything happen to her.
A group of guards charged forward with swords in hand, shouting angrily.
Behind us, the young king also charged forward. This was a Spirit Rank boss, and he could not be underestimated!
"Hand over your life, you meddlesome brat!"
The king raised his sharp sword and leaped into the air. His longsword was covered in thick flames as he swung it down. From the looks of it, he wanted to finish me off in one hit!
I gritted my teeth and shielded Mylin behind me. I raised my arm and raised my sword in front of my chest. I had to block this attack first!
Clang!
“2782！”
Sparks flew everywhere as my entire body shook violently. Even though I had successfully Guarded, the web between my thumb and forefinger was still numb from the impact. I swiftly retreated, and as I was retreating, I abruptly swung my sword. It was the new skill that I was proud of — Burning Blade Slash!
The Heaven-stealing Sword was engulfed in raging flames, and three flaming sword energies howled out!
"Bang bang bang!"
“4784！”
"6745, other readers read as normal:!"
“9047！”
I was a little surprised that the monarch of Sky City had been knocked back by these three consecutive attacks. It wouldn't be surprising if a monarch like Sophia or Karinshan could instantly kill me. However, the monarch of Sky City seemed far too weak. It was obvious that alcohol and women had hollowed out his body. If it weren't for the fact that he was such a fatuous monarch, Sky City wouldn't have fallen to such a state.
Magus Mylin turned around, a fireball floating above her palm. However, she was reluctant to make a move. As a Royal Magus, it would be too much for her to make a move against the king.
I hurriedly grabbed Mylin's hand and said, "Hurry up, let's go!"
We rushed out of the gate, but there were even more guards waiting for us outside. It was at this moment that a fierce figure charged into the crowd and swept his sword horizontally, sending shockwaves through the air and sending a group of imperial swordsmen tumbling to the ground.
It was none other than the imperial general who had just been devalued — Jacelyn!
"Brave and righteous adventurer, I will lead you and Magus Mylin out of here!
Let's leave this system of nobility that is rotten to the core! "
I nodded and followed Jacelyn out of the gate. The other two imperial generals had also pulled out their swords. With three NPCs clearing the way, it wasn't too difficult to kill our way out. It was only when we reached the streets that I discovered to my dismay that the quest for Sky City had been triggered. The names of all the guards had turned blood-red. I had been listed as a wanted criminal by the NPC faction!
Boom!
I spun around and unleashed a Thousand Ice Slash into the crowd. A large group of imperial swordsmen were frozen in place, unable to move.
Jacelyn slowly withdrew his sword from the enemy's abdomen and turned around to growl, "We will kill our way out of the capital and head for the base at the foot of Dragonbone Mountain Range. My army is stationed there, a hundred thousand strong. If we advance, we can defend the borders. If we retreat, we can protect the country. We cannot allow the weak nobles to ruin everything for the empire!"
I nodded. "Let's go. Everyone else, read as you normally would!"
… …
Motherf * cker, I must be an extremely rebellious person. After rebelling with Jacelyn and Mylin, I was actually very excited!
Behind us, the young king's face was filled with violence and malevolence. He shouted, "Inform the Mage Guild to immediately activate the Purgatory Dragon Scepter and summon the spatial bridge. The time is ripe for Lord Coldblade to descend upon the earth. I want all four empires to submit to me! I want the entire world to know that the wise ruler of Sky City is leading the human race!"
It's over!
The sound of a system announcement reverberated in the sky above the main city — "Ding ~!"
System Announcement: All players, please be informed that Sky City has undergone a drastic change. The Purgatory Dragon Scepter has officially been activated, and Coldblade's army is about to descend upon Sky City. Time remaining until the spatial bridge is formed: 600 seconds!
… …
Goddammit, that was fast! There was only ten minutes left before the spatial bridge was formed!
I sprinted out of the city and shut down Air Force One while I was at it. I couldn't let White Fox get killed, or I would suffer a huge loss. Once the main city was reclaimed, the result would be the same.
The guild channel was in complete chaos. Everyone was asking me what was going on in astonishment.
I said in a low voice, "Everyone, don't hesitate. Immediately repair your equipment and stock up on potions. After that, teleport to Dark Moon City. I'm afraid that we'll be stuck in Dark Moon City for a very long time. In any case, we need to leave Sky City within ten minutes!"
Li Chengfeng: "What happened, Lu Chen?"
He Yi: "Yeah, what's going on?"
I replied in a low voice, "When I was doing my fifth class promotion quest, I triggered a main storyline quest. The nobles of Sky City have betrayed the human alliance, and they're summoning an army of Hell to help them conquer their territory. Everyone, leave Sky City immediately. It won't be long before this place will be overrun by the Night Creatures.
Li Chengfeng: "Okay, I understand. Everyone, immediately replenish your supplies and teleport to Dark Moon City. We'll see what happens next, so don't hesitate and listen to the guild leader!"
Li Chengfeng, Xu Yang, and the others organized the retreat of Ancient Sword Dreaming Souls.
I took this opportunity to send a message to Lin Yixin, Ling Xueshang, and the rest of our allies, telling them to retreat from Sky City. Otherwise, when Coldblade and his army of Night Creatures descended upon Sky City, everyone would be dead meat. Coldblade was one of the nine bosses, and as a Sovereign Rank commander, he was definitely not someone the current players could deal with.
… …
I brought Mylin with me as we followed Jacelyn and the others. An hour later, we arrived at the foot of Dragonbone Mountain Range. The neighing of warhorses could be heard in the distance. When we reached the top of a small hill, we discovered that a mighty and majestic human army was stationed on a vast plain in the distance. Orderly cavalry units thundered past, and countless infantry soldiers were drilling. I could even see the silhouettes of Gryphon Knights in the sky!
Jacelyn pointed at the army at the foot of the mountain and patted me on the shoulder. He smiled and said, "Brother, do you see that? This is the Sky Empire's most elite Mad Lion Legion, and I am the commander of this Mad Lion Legion. Right now, we have this majestic army of one hundred and forty thousand men. We can definitely fight against Coldblade's army!"
I furrowed my brows and said, "Don't blame me for discouraging you. With the Mad Lion Legion's strength, I'm afraid that they won't be able to pose a threat to Coldblade's army at all. This time, the commander of the Night Creatures' army is Coldblade, and his strength is unfathomable. Not a single one of us can fight against him. Coldblade's army is constantly teleporting over from hell, isn't that right?"
Jacelyn nodded. "I know that as well. However, we have no way of stopping the Purgatory Dragon Scepter. Right now, the only thing we can do is to fight bravely and lead our army back to Sky City. We will charge into the city and destroy the Purgatory Dragon Scepter. However, I'm afraid that the price we have to pay will be extremely high."
"There's no other way."
I smiled faintly and asked, "If we defeat Coldblade, then what do you plan to do?
After you dethrone the tyrant, will you make yourself king, or what? "
Jacelyn shook his head and said, "I, Jacelyn, will guard the glory of the knights. I will never betray my country, and I will never betray the king of the human race. Since the royal authority of Sky City is already rotten, then I will listen to the orders of the next king. That's why I have a favor to ask of you.
"What is it?"
"Take the letters from me, Eric, and Dirks and head to Floating Ice City. Ask Princess Karinshan of Floating Ice City to lead an army and recapture Sky City. Princess Karinshan possesses the bloodline of the most sacred of kings, and she is a strategist as well. She is the best candidate to become the king of Sky City. Moreover, Floating Ice City has been training its troops for many years, and they have a strong and well-trained army. With their help, Sky City will definitely be able to reclaim its territory from Coldblade's sword!"
"Okay, leave this matter to me!"
I accepted the three letters, my heart pounding with excitement. Goddammit, I might not be able to defeat Coldblade in a one-on-one fight, but in this kind of critical situation, delivering letters or something like that shouldn't be a problem.
… …
It was at this moment that chaos had broken out in Sky City's direction. A gigantic blue formation pillar had enveloped the capital as spatial energy surged. Not long after, countless Night Creatures were teleported over from hell. Half-beastman Warriors wielding war hammers with rotten heads, giant beasts covered in chains, and foul smelling breath came out of their mouths. These gigantic monsters, which I had never seen before, appeared one after another and wreaked havoc on the originally peaceful plaza of Sky City. Many players who didn't have time to escape were killed, and the peaceful main city was instantly turned into a sea of blood!
I was speechless. All of this was caused by my quest. Now that I thought about it, my sins were truly grave.
However, if I thought about it from another perspective, even if I hadn't accepted this quest, this version of Sky City would still have arrived, and Karinshan would have become the ruler of Sky City. This was a trend that no one could stop. After all, Sky City needed a wise and mighty monarch, a monarch who could lead the people against the Night Creatures, not a servile villain.
I teleported to Dark Moon City and opened a portal to Floating Ice City. It was time to deliver a letter!
